The 10 largest Pfandbrief issuers – who issues what?

Mortgage Pfandbriefe dominate the ten largest issuers’ outstanding Pfandbrief volume with EUR 212 billion or 75%, compared to Public Pfandbriefe with EUR 72 billion or 25%. This ratio is in line with the overall market. The ten institutions with the largest Pfandbrief volumes include four specialised real estate financing banks, four Landesbanks and two universal banks. With the merger of Berlin Hyp and LBBW announced for the beginning of August this year, the ‘new’ LBBW will close in on DZ Hyp (EUR 44 billion) with around EUR 43 billion in circulation, and Aareal Bank will move into the group of the ten largest Pfandbrief issuers with EUR 16 billion in circulation.
